Just to prove I’m not a total loon or a hoax or a Buddha huckster snake oil salesman, I’d like to mention a passage from the Dhammapada. Now the Dhammapada is not exactly the highest form of literature in the Pali Canon. It’s popular, but it’s not erudite. I never really warmed up to most of it, but the first few stanzas do really shine.

‘He insulted me,
hit me,
beat me,
robbed me’
